The official trailer for the critically-acclaimed psychological drama Clemency, starring Alfre Woodard has finally been released and from what it looks, both the cast and the movie are strong contenders for the next Oscar awards.
The movie tells the story of an emotionally conflicted prison warden Bernadine Williams (Alfre Woodard) whose years of carrying out death row executions have taken a toll on her. However, as she prepares to execute another inmate, Bernadine must confront the psychological and emotional demons her job creates, ultimately connecting her to the man she is sanctioned to kill.
Directed and written by Nigerian filmmaker Chinonye Chukwu, the movie won the Sundance Grand Jury prize back in January, making Chukwu the first Black woman director to earn the top prize at the festival. The movie also recently showed at the Toronto Film Festival.
Clemency also stars Aldis Hodge, Richard Schiff, Danielle Brooks and Wendell Pierce. The film was produced by ACE Pictures Entertainment, Bronwyn Cornelius Productions and Julian Cautherley.
The prison warden drama will hit theatres on December 27, 2019.
