When 11-year-old Tyler Butler-Figueroa stepped on the America’s Got Talent stage, he already looked like a remarkable young man, by the time he finished telling his personal story, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind what a special young man they had in their midst.
Tyler Butler-Figueroa was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 4 and because of that had to go through Chemotherapy and subsequently suffered hair loss. This led to a lot of Bullying in school with the young man admitting that kids said his disease was contagious and therefore didn’t want to associate with him.
He picked up the violin when he was 7 despite the fact that no one in his family knew how to play an instrument.
He practised and practised until he was good enough to mount the AGT stage.
The clearly emotional Tyler told his story to the touched judges and finally, it was time to play. There are times when someone has a sad and heartbreaking back story, but not the talent to back it up– not Tyler, after a brief stint of nervousness where he got himself and the crowd hyped by getting them to clap along, he delved into a masterful performance with the violin.
It was a thing of beauty
After the performance that astounded the judges, Simon Cowell asked how he felt, to which Tyler said “Pretty proud of myself” and Simon then asked about his health to which Tyler responded “I’ve been in remission for 4 years”
“You are an extraordinary young man,” Simon Cowell said. “We hear too many stories about people being bullied. But I can tell you one thing, most people are bullied because they are better than the people who bully them. I think you have such amazing talent, such personality.”
Tyler Butler-Figueroa got a golden buzzer for his extraordinary performance.
