There are a slew of Nollywood movies poised to come out this year and one of the more fun ones is ‘Bling Lagosians’ which stars Toyin Abraham, Alex Ekubo, Elvina Ibru, Bisiola Aiyeola, Monalisa Chinda, Sharon Ooja and Osas Ighodaro.
The movie which has Bolanle Austen Peters at its helm tells the story of a socialite family that plans to host a birthday party while the patriarch tries to hide the family’s growing debt.
Austen Peters said that she wants to tell the story of an experience that is somewhat common in Nigeria. The need to ‘show off’ and look good is prevalent in Nigeria and this is sometimes done at the expense of the family’s finances.
Bling Lagosians is sure to be a great watch as Austen Peters has shown that she has a knack for creating compelling stories that showcase Nigerian culture with plenty of humour and social commentary.
This happens to be Austen Peter’s directorial debut after she distinguished herself in stage production with her production company Bolanle Austen Peters production behind award winning stage plays such as Saro and Wakaa, the latter becoming the first Nigerian stage play to ever be featured on London’s famous West End.
The daughter of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Afe Babalola, Mrs. Austen Peters changed career paths moving from law into the arts and she has never looked back. She once said in an interview, “I’m on a journey. I’ve been able to add value to a lot of lives; I’ve been able to create fun for myself in the course of this. And I’m grateful to God and I believe that we’ve got a long way to go.”
The movie is set to hit cinemas on the 28th of June 2019 and you can almost be certain that it is going to be a blast.
