Despite the health implications of skin bleaching, it is still being practised by most young women with the intention of looking younger and attracting attention from men.
While most celebrities deny engaging in the act, popular Ghanaian singer and radio personality Mzbel has openly confessed to using bleaching creams. The “16 years” hitmaker recently sat down with Abeiku Santana on UTV’s Atuu show where she revealed her regrets for bleaching, her jealousy for black girls and the measures she is taking to cure skin bleaching.
In her words;
I have come to understand life and I am trying to connect to who I am, as a black person I don’t think I have to be apologizing for being black.
I don’t care if people start saying I am black now, being white is not who I am and anytime I see someone with dark complexion I jealous the person. I move from Church to Church because I’m on a spiritual journey to quit bleaching.
Skin bleaching products are reported to contain chemicals such as hydroquinone, corticosteroids, salicylic agents, sodium hypochlorite, and many other acidic agents that put users at great risk of various health complications.
