Tributes Roll In To Celebrate Rip Torn Who Died At 88

Rip Torn

Rip Torn, best known for his roles in Men In Black and Dodgeball, has passed away and so far, there is no official cause of death.

The actor died at his home in Lakeville, Connecticut according to his representatives.

Rip Torn was much loved by Hollywood and the people who worked in it. There have been many tributes that have come in praising the star and condoling with his family.

Fantasy Novelist, Neil Gaiman said that he based one of his characters from his popular novel, American gods, on the actor.

He tweeted: “I met Rip Torn once, in 1990, on a movie location in NC. “You write science fiction?” he said, teeth in a scary grin. “I was in BEASTMASTER.” Then he shook my hand and I ceased to exist for him. That was the start of Mr Wednesday in American Gods. RIP Rip.”


Mara Wilson of ‘Matilda’ fame also tweeted about Rip Torn: “I was lucky enough to work with Rip Torn when I was ten. I had no idea how much he had done, just that he was a nice and interesting guy. What a life.”

Another person who worked with him also commented: “In doing Random Roles interviews, I always ask anyone who’s ever worked with Rip Torn if they’ve got a Rip Torn story, but Conchata Ferrell’s is probably my all-time favorite, because that last line… I mean, I can hear the words rumbling out of his mouth even now… #RIPRipTorn”

Actor Tom Green also got in on the act and tweeted: “Just heard the sad news that the great Rip Torn has passed away. Rip was a class act. He was an incredible actor. One of the greats. A true legend. I am proud to have worked with him and to have known him. Rest in peace Rip.”

Rip was born Elmore Rual Torn Jr. in Temple, Texas in 1931 and studied acting at Texas A&M and the University of Texas. He then served a stint in the Army before heading to Los Angeles in the mid-1950s.
