Before you bring out the pitchforks, we know Arya did the actual killing, however, before Arya pulled off her stunt, Jon Snow had killed the Night King
Or at least the person who played the role of the Night King
Vladmir Furdik, originally from Slovenia, is a stuntman who plays the Night King on Game of Thrones, but also played other roles including the role of the White Walker Jon Snow first killed when he fought them in Hardhome.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Furdik explained that before taking up the iconic character, his roles featured, “a lot of horse falls, fire drops, high falls, sword fights. I doubled for Arthur Dayne [for the Tower of Joy fight scene]. I’m one of the men jumping from the boat in the fire [during Daenerys’ dragon attack].”
He also added “I don’t really know why they cast me,
“When we did Season 5, I was the White Walker who fought Jon Snow [in “Hardhome”] — the first time Jon Snow killed a White Walker, that was me. After that, [showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss] asked if I’d play the Night King for seasons 6 through 8. I never asked why. Maybe they were happy with what I did in season 5.”
Most people certainly were and it’s clear that his portrayal of the Night King is one of the show’s highlights, if anything, people were disappointed that Arya was able to kill him and destroy his army without getting any real back story to the character which was a bit of a downer.
But with the Night King down and the White Walker threat ended, what remains is the showdown with Cersei Lannister and her forces which many view to be a little anticlimactic considering just how epic a battle the Battle of Winterfell was.
Game of Thrones returns on Sunday as we hurtle towards the end of one of the greatest shows on TV.
