“Tell Your Story, We Will Stand By You As We Are Standing By Busola Dakolo”- Singer, Omawumi Calls On Rape Victims

Nigerian singer and songwriter Omawumi Megbele popularly known by her stage name, Omawumi – recently spoke in strong terms during a live performance on the menace of rape in the country, the abuse of women and particularly on the rape allegation against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo by Busola Dakolo.

The mum-of-two also centred her speech on not featuring on Beyonce’s Lion King album, rape, domestic abuse and the award presented to Senator Elisha Abbo even after he was seen in a viral video assaulting a nursing mother.

Omawumi in her spirited speech called on victims of rape to rise above fear and share their stories, assuring them that they will be believed and supported just as is currently being done for Busola Dakolo.

She added that people have been getting away with rape for a long time and though she will accept that a rapist won’t own up to the crime, however, they need to “STFU”.

The ‘If You Ask Me’ crooner also asked how an abuser will feel if they were in the shoes of the victim. Omawumi rounded off her speech by saying that Busola Dakolo’s rape story is an inspiration to every other young girl who has been abused in the past.

In her words;

People have been getting away with rape for a long time. People that would say lemme just put a cap in…aside from that, they begged me that I should not say it but I have to say it. I would accept the fact that you don’t own up to the fact that you raped someone but shut da f**k up.

How in the hell in this world will a senator slap a pregnant woman and is still giving a speech and some youths are giving him awards. Nigeria we need to wake up, it is sickening…For every young woman out there arise from this from this shit. You will rise from it, I employ everybody out there that has a story to come out and say it. We will stand by you, we are standing by Busola Dakolo.

This is coming a month after Busola Dakolo had accused the senior pastor of Commonwealth Of Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo of raping her when she was a teenager. That now-famous interview not only sparked off a conversation on social media but changed the lives of the parties involved.
