American rapper A$AP Rocky has had his detention extended by a Swedish Court after being deemed a flight risk.
The rapper was arrested on the 3rd of July for assault and has been incarcerated ever since.
A Stockholm District Court in its ruling agreed that A$AP Rocky would represent a flight risk and should therefore be detained further.
Prosecutor Daniel Suneson believes that “This gives us time to complete the investigation” and he has till July 25th to charge the rapper.
This decision hasn’t gone down well with Rocky’s Camp as his lawyer Slobodan Jovicic believes that the court’s decision is unfair.
In his opinion, calling A$AP Rocky a flight risk is ridiculous as missing a court date could mean the rapper would be banned from Europe, something the rapper is highly unlikely to want to risk.
“I am very disappointed, even though this was very much expected, given our regulations for detentions and that it’s very easy to detain someone,”
The incarceration of A$AP Rocky has led to the Hashtag #FreeA$AP trending on Twitter as many of his colleagues have called for his release.
And it seems the campaign has worked as the President of the United States, Donald Trump has expressed his willingness to try and find a resolution in the A$AP Rocky case saying in a tweet that he’ll look to do something.
“Just spoke to @KanyeWest about his friend A$AP Rocky’s incarceration. I will be calling the very talented Prime Minister of Sweden to see what we can do about helping A$AP Rocky. So many people would like to see this quickly resolved!” he tweeted.
The sentiment of the President has been met positively with many thanking him, however, people also pointed out that it may be propaganda and the President actually has no plans of doing anything.
It’s hoped that the issue is resolved soon.
