Six days ago, fans of one of Nigerians favourite rapper – Olamide – were treated to a new single titled Pawon. The song in its essence offered ladies the chance to “kill the men in their lives with their endowed booties”.
Following the release of the new track from the YBNL boss, Olamide reached out to all his female fans across the globe urging them to take part in a challenge tagged #pawonchallenge, where the winner takes home a cash prize of $5000.
…and trust the ladies, they blatantly heeded to the voice of the street.
Nonetheless, it has been six days since the new street jam was released and a peek at Olamide’s Instagram page clearly shows that the rapper has garnered multiple entries for the challenge, hence it is safe to say that the song is currently doing well on music charts.
However, a search for the song on Apple Music’s top 100 Nigeria indicates that the song is currently placed on number 15; an unfamiliar spot for a song that has gone quite as viral as this one.
Of course, there is enough time for the song to ascend to the top of the chart, however, given the magnitude of the challenge and Olamide’s earlier statement that the challenge was a strategy to promote the song, it is safe to say that the song itself remains a bit far off the mark considering that we have seen a lot of songs achieve this better feat in no time at all.
In any case, we will keep our fingers crossed and keep watching how the song eventually tops music charts across boards.
In the meantime, listen to the track produced by Cracker Mallo below;
