Nigerian singer Johnson Oyindamola, otherwise known as Dammy Krane has been arraigned before a court sitting in Igbosere.
The singer was before the court on charges bordering on threat to life, defamation and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
This comes after a spat between Dammy Krane and the betting company, Merrybet who claimed that the singer threatened one of their employees.
Police Prosecutor, Insp. J. I. Enang, in his argument, claimed that Dammy Krane was sorely disappointed in losing a game organised by Merrybet and went on a rampage afterwards which included him threatening people and releasing a defamatory video in which he accused the company of refusing to pay him.
“The defendant, however demanded some money for appearing on the show, the firm disagreed, insisting that the sum was only for the winners. The musician subsequently breached a contractual agreement with the firm. He also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by posting an audio and a video message on Cool FM 96.9,” the prosecutor said to the court.
The defendants on the other hand asked for a bail which the court granted setting at N50,000.
“We humbly apply for the bail of the defendant. Section 35 (5) states that an accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. He is a popular musician, if granted bail, he will not jump bail, meanwhile he has been in police custody since Sept. 13,” said Adebayo Oniyelu representing Dammy Krane.
If convicted of his crimes, the singer faces up to 3 years in prison which after his last prison encounter would be something he isn’t looking to repeat.
