#SexForGrades has been the talking point since news about it broke yesterday and institutions are jumping into action to dispense justice.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) which had a number of lecturers exposed in the scandal have announced the closure of the notorious ‘Cold Room’ in which a lot of students have been sexually harassed.
In a statement by Taiwo Oloyede, the Principal Assistant Registrar (Communication Unit), the university announced the closure of the cold room and also the suspension of Boniface Igbeneghu who was caught on camera harassing students.
Boniface was also disowned by the Foursquare Gospel church where he was a pastor. In a statement on Twitter, the verified handle of the church said that they are aware of the evidence against him and dissociate themselves from him: “The attention of the leadership of The Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria has been drawn to a video clip trending on social media platforms titled “Sex for grades: Undercover in West Africa Universities- BBC News”
“Wherein a lecturer in University of Lagos names Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu also described as a pastor in Foursquare Gospel Church was allegedly involved in sexual misconduct with some female students of the university.
“The general public is hereby informed that as a holiness and Bible-believing Church, we do not condone such heinous and unscriptural act among our ministers.
“We totally dissociate ourselves from the purported conduct of Dr. Igbenoghu and promise to take appropriate measure as soon as the ongoing investigation is concluded.
“Meanwhile, the pastor in question has been asked to step down from all ministerial assignments. Thank you all. Rev. Ikechukwu Ugbaja National Secretary.”
