Seun Kuti Blasts Journalist While Sharing Throwback Photo

Seun Kuti has taken a lot of the combative attributes of his father with his biting criticism of the government and societal norms which he finds worrying.

He was at it again recently when he locked his sight on a journalist called Charles Okoghene.

Seun Kuti shared a throwback photo of himself on Instagram as a 15-year-old touring with the Egypt 70 band and doing covers of his father’s songs.

He was unhappy with some of the coverage he was getting which he said tried to compare him with his father. He felt this was unfair due to his age and relative inexperience.

He also tackled political journalists and claimed that the standards of reporting in both the entertainment scene and the political one wasn’t very professional.

‘This picture was taken in 1998. My first tour with the Egypt80 Band. I used to cover just my dads songs then and that when I knew the Nigerian media had serious issues’.

He added ‘all they did then was compare me A 15 year old ( doing the necessary work of preserving a musical institution) to my father. I wonder what they were doing at 15. That bastard Charles Okogene was their chairman and if I still catch am ehn! And I am sorry to say the level of reporting both entertainment and politics is still crass and below par! All of them bar none’.

While Seun Kuti might be critical of some of the reporting of journalists, he is sympathetic to those who are being persecuted by the government.

He wrote on Twitter recently: “ALL DIS WAR ON OUR JOURNALISTS MUST STOP NOW. WEN WILL ALL OUR JOURNALISTS AND MEDIA HOUSES COME OUT TO PROTEST ON DIS. WE R NOW GOING BCK TO D DARK DAYS OF DIS CONTRI, WE CANT ALLOW OURSEFS TO B REVERSE BY DIS EVIL GOVT WEY NO SEND MAYBE U B JOURNALIST OR HUMAN RIGHT ACTIVISTS”
