The event was held in Bayelsa state, at the Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre.
Nyekachi Douglas took home the top prize and will now proceed to represent Nigeria at the Miss World Pageant which will take place in London later this year.
Miss Taraba, Olutosin Araromi took the runner up spot while Miss Abuja, Pamela Ifejoku, Miss Edo, Akeelah Aminu and Miss Bayelsa, Becky Ogene rounded out the top 5.
Twitter was abuzz with the news that miss Rivers won and the reactions were mostly positive with the Port Hacourt Magazine hailing the victory saying: “Congratulations to Nyekachi Douglas, winner of #Mbgn2019
“The last River State Girl to win MBGN was Queen Agbani Derego, she eventually became the first black African to be crowned Miss World. We wish Nyekachi better luck and Grace. Port Harcourt to the world!”
Another user said: “Ms Rivers has won MBGN! Another win for the city of Port Harcourt. Loud this one!”
As always, there were negative comments like this user who tried to shame Douglas, stating that her lips were too wide to be a winner. “This girl is too ugly with mouth so wide she couldn’t have won this crown. EFCC should investigate corruption in #MBGN” he tweeted

There was a little bit of controversy as she answered a question where she said she met the President in the Bayelsa state house. Someone pointed this out in this tweet: “So Miss Rivers told the world that she visited the Bayelsa state government house where she met the president and she still got an ovation 🙉.
“She has since been given the crown as the Most Beautiful girl in Nigeria #Mbgn2019”
