Nollywood Alive Artiste Of The Week – Asa

Bukola Elemide better known by her stage name, Asa is a Nigerian-French singer born on the 17th of September, 1982. She is a singer, songwriter, performing and recording artiste.

Asa was born in Paris and she moved to Nigeria with her parents when she was 2-years-old and after 18years of her stay in Lagos, Nigeria, she returned to Paris.

Becoming a musician is a career she saw coming because of the inspiration she drew from those her father worked for as a cinematographer.

In 2004, the 37-year-old artiste met her manager, Janet Nwose. Prior to the meet, Asa who had already returned back to Paris at age 20, went further to show more interest in music at the IMFP Jazz School. She got even more inspired when she was told by her teachers that she needed no tutoring rather, go ahead to become a recording artiste.

She got signed to Naive Records and got her first album produced by Cobhams Asuquo and she has been unstoppable ever since. Since the start of her music journey, Asa has recorded 4 albums. They are;

Asa won the 2008 Fresh Talent of 10 singers by a Jury of 19 Music Industry Specialists in Paris.

Asa got the nomination for the Female Artiste of the Year at the French Music Awards – Victories De La Musique.
