The funeral for slain rapper Nipsey Hussle held yesterday and it was a melting pot of tears, grief, honor and legacy.
Many came out to honor the rapper who was killed on the 31st of March outside his store in Los Angeles.
Prominent celebrities including Snoop Dogg, Stevie Wonder and Jhene Aiko were in attendance and the last two even performed at the ceremony. Amongst many noteworthy things that took place, it’s safe to say that both Lauren London’s tribute and her son Kameron Carter’s were of particular interest.
The partner of the rapper came on stage dressed in a white suit and though it was evident that she had been grieving, there was also a defiance to her words, a defiance that showed that she was not going to let the death of Hussle impede his work and his legacy.
“I’m so grateful that I had you. I love you beyond this earth and until we meet again—THE MARATHON CONTINUES!” she said to rousing applause.
Her son, Kameron Carter also spoke of Nipsey Hussle and told a fascinating anecdote about how he saw the rapper in heaven and how the rapper told him that the place was paradise.
He shared how the rapper nicknamed him ‘Killa’ and how he always said ‘Respect’ to the window. He urged the crowd of mourners to do so with him after the count of three and he was met with heavy enthusiasm from the crowd.
There were other tributes including from his brother who was one of the first on the scene after the rapper was shot.
The rapper was only 33 at the time of his death but had also done so much for the community including exclusively hiring ex-convicts at his stores so as to help with the massive unemployment rate of the ex-convict populace.
