Many Nigerians are on different sides of the divide when it comes the matter of Elisha Abbo and Senator Oluremi Tinubu, with some for her and others, against.
Elisha Abbo is the senator who slapped a nursing mother in a sex shop recently and to this end, he was arrested and charged. Due to his position, he was also compelled to appear before the Senate ad-hoc committee which was investigating the case which took place on the 11th of May 2019.
Oluremi Tinubu was heading the committee and was unimpressed with the Senator’s behavior as he was reluctant to talk in front of journalists whom he said could use anything he said against him in the media.
The former first lady of Lagos state was upset by this statement and said: “Distinguished, you just joined us. We have a procedure and we are also under law. You don’t come in here and dictate to us what should be done,” Mrs Tinubu told Abbo, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member. You are on the other side now. You don’t tell us what to do…because we can suspend you,”
Senator Abbo was not having it though and he hit right back at her saying that he would not be intimidated nor threatened.
“I will not sit here and listen to you threaten me with suspension. I am a senator like you. You cannot threaten me with suspension.”
Nigerians are torn over the situation. There are those who believe that Oluremi Tinubu was rude and that the fact that she attributed his actions to his age is unacceptable. There are also those in support of Tinubu who believe that Abbo has no right to make any demands seeing as what he did was heinous and there are those who also believe that Abbo’s disposition is because Tinubu is a woman.
It was a huge deal on Twitter. You can read below to see some of the responses.
I’ve watched a longer video of the exchange between Remi Tinubu and Elisha Abbo. I get that Abbo is “underserving” of respect and has anger problem, but Senator Tinubu was unnecessarily condescending. At a point she sounded as though she’s addressing a school kid, not colleague.

Something is worrying Nigerians,Elisha Abbo slapped a woman ON CAMERA and people are mad because Remi Tinubu didn’t talk to him with “respect”. She has every right to talk to him the way she did;it’s a DISCIPLINARY hearing and he disrespected every senator through his actions. pic.twitter.com/wu7xNC7azs

This's d same thing standing as a chairperson of a disciplinary committee? The woman that have shown madness and abuse in different occasions? What a country! She slapped a colleague hiding behind 'I'm a woman', denigrated a whole ethnic group etc. Remi Tinubu is shameless pic.twitter.com/iodLPaqqMN

The only problem you people have with how Sen. Remi Tinubu spoke are;
1. Sen. Remi Tinubu is a woman and she addressing a man
2. She is the only woman in the room yet the most vocal. "No respect for the men"
3. She is the wife of Bola Ahmed Tinubu
We have a long way to go

If Senator Abbo was really apologetic and humbled, when Senator Remi Tinubu told him he could be suspended by the panel he would have been quiet and respectful and not talk back to her like a petulant child, he has not learnt his lesson and has no respect for women.

Sen.Remi Tinubu shelled at Sen.Elisha Abbo,& he returned same in kind. The junior senator seems to be a fanatical fan of Isaac Newton's 3rd law of motion. Mama Tinubu now knows that he isnt trigger shy or a flatfooter.

Senator Elisha Abbo yelling is not even the scariest part in this video… But Remi Tinubu talking about protection, offering him protection.
Protection from what exactly? 🤦pic.twitter.com/dZGfWhc6Qk

Say what ever you like Sen. Remi Tinubu has no moral right to talk to Sen. Elisha Abbo in that manner she slapped a senator the other time too..
Well well this is Nigeria both of them are still senators..
