Nigerians React To Davido Giving Adekunle Gold Songwriting Credit

Davido to get a role in Coming to America 2

Davido credited Adekunle Gold with writing one of the songs on his upcoming album, which was a good thing, however, it also got him some flak from an individual.

The Fall singer, posted on his Twitter, his thanks to Adekunle Gold for writing a great song on his album. He was then challenged by a user who said he should write his own songs himself, to which Davido said that perhaps artistes need to be more honest about the source of a lot of their songs.

“One of my favorite songs on my upcoming album was Co written by @adekunleGOLD!!! Thanks for your touch on this ! God bless you brother” he tweeted.

This of course sparked a huge reaction online on the nature of crediting songwriters and the naivete of Nigerians as to how things actually work in the music industry.

But what seems to have impressed people the most is Davido’s maturity in his response, as pointed out by this Twitter user; “Davido gave credit to Adekunle Gold for Co written a song. Twitter user: U should learn to write songs for yourself. Instead of normal Davido’s response like shut up, I can feed your family, he said “Maybe more artist should learn to tell the truth”. This shows maturity & growth.”

There were those who as usual used it as a chance to sub Wizkid, with one user claiming that maybe it’s Wizkid that needs songwriters as the writing for his songs have become lazy.

“Ya’ll trolling Davido for using songwriters on some songs. Maybe if Wizkid did too, we wouldn’t have to listen to “Kolobi-kor-kor-kor”. His jams are always melodious with killer vocals but the writing has been way too lazy recently. You still feel some content in Davido’s jams.”
