Mad Melon

Oghenemaro Emeofa otherwise known as Mad Melon from the popular duo, Danfo Drivers, is dead according to reports.

The passing on was announced by fellow industry veteran, Daddy Showkey who took to his Instagram comment on the sad news. He put up a video which he captioned: “Can somebody tell me that is not true that we just lost Mad Melon DANFO Driver pls”

In the video, a visibly upset Daddy Showkey said that he had just heard the news of Mad Melon’s demise and he lamented the timing of it and the fact that it happened.

At the moment there has been no confirmation on the cause of death, but some outlets report that it was due to illness.

Mad Melon became really popular in the 90s especially when their hit track, ‘Danfo Driver’ hit the airwaves. They were a part of the burgeoning music scene in Nigeria at the time.

He had been away from the limelight for quite some time and came back briefly into it after he and his co-singer, Mountain Black accused Tekno of plagiarism.

According to Mad Melon, Tekno sampled their song, “kpolongo”. Things were heated for a bit, but the trio reconciled in May last year and all was settled.

There has been an outpouring of messages from fans and critics alike who have praised Mad Melon for his legacy.

Imoh Umoren tweeted about the sad news stating that the singer at least left a mark; “The thing about Mad Melon is that he made an impact in his short time here on Earth. He didn’t just pass by, He made people stop and look”

May his soul rest in perfect peace
