Nigerian Artistes Who Have Won The BET Awards Over The Years

Just before the recent win by the Nigerian Artiste Burna Boy, during the just concluded 2019, 19th Edition of BET Awards, Nigeria has been giving the rest of the world something to contend with. Let’s take a look at some Nigerian artistes who have won the BET Awards over the years..

The Black Entertainment Television Awards popularly known as The BET Awards, is focused on celebrating Blacks Americans in all fields/areas of entertainment, but not withstanding the name, in 2011, the BET created a special category to celebrate international artistes from Africa named, “Best International Act”, and a number of Nigerian artistes have won severally in this category..

ICE PRINCE: I know what you think, but let’s not forget that, the Chocolate City own Signed artiste, was at some point in his career, on top of his Rap Game. And that earned him, the first African Artist to win the BET Award as a Solo Act and till this day, it remains a memorable moment.. But, we hope to see more of him in the near future.

DAVIDO: He has worn the BET awards twice in his career as a singer. The first was in 2014 and in 2018, he won in the capacity as the ‘first African Act’. We sure don’t expect less from him.

WIZKID: He’s been a winner of the BET Awards twice in a row. He won the award in 2012 alongside Sarkodie from Ghana, while he won again in 2017 as a solo artist.

2FACE & D’BANJ: Two great artistes from Nigeria, claimed this award in 2011 when the category was created, in the midst of other African artistes doing great songs around same time as 2face and D’banj..

Aren’t we just proud of our own? ? Aside the winners, other Nigerian artist to have gotten nominations, are:

  • Tekno
  • Tiwa Savage
  • Mr. Eazi
  • Yemi Alade
  • Teni (Recently)

Who do you think is next? We definitely can’t wait to see our acts continue to represent at the BET Awards and other international awards as well. I mean think about a Wizkid or Yemi Alade or even Burna bringing a Grammy home?
