Nigerian rapper, Naira Marley has taken a rather philosophical standpoint after his release from jail also stating that he got a lot of help while inside.
Recall that the rapper was incarcerated in jail for about 35 days as his legal team raced to perfect his bail conditions.
He was arrested by the EFCC and charged with offenses bordering on credit card fraud.
Upon release, the rapper took to social media and said that while he is not a yahoo boy, he was incarcerated because of them.
“THOSE OF YOU THAT ARE YAHOO BOYS ARE OWING ME MONEY BECAUSE AM I A YAHOO BOY? NO. I HAVE GONE TO JAIL BECAUSE OF THEM”.he said.
In this new post, Naira Marley not only talked about the help he received in prison, but also the people who were being held there unjustly.
He mentioned someone who had been in prison for 9 whole years and had not even been to court, he hadn’t had a fair trial and had not even been found guilty.
He also gave an example of another person who had been behind bars for 2 years and his only offense was dating a girl and not being approved of by the mother.
He wrote: “I had to help a lot of niggas in jail. I met one guy, he has been in jail for 9 years but never been to court, as they haven’t even found him guilty yet. What if he is not even guilty?
“I met another nigga in jail. [He has] been in jail for over 2 years because he is in a relationship with rich woman’s daughter and the woman locked him up for not leaving her daughter.”
Whether you believe in Naira Marley, his innocence, music or not, it cannot be denied that the experiences he’s alluding to, do indeed happen in the country and if there is a way that such actions or behavior can at least be curbed, then it certainly should.
