Azeez Fashola known as Naira Marley might be a free man at the moment, his legal troubles aren’t over yet as he is due in court next month.
Recall that the Nigerian singer was incarcerated after being arrested on his birthday back in March by members of the EFCC.
He had 11 charges filed against him bordering on alleged cybercrime and identity theft and if convicted, he could spend up to 7 years in jail.
The trial is set to continue on the 22nd of October.
Since his release, he has become ever so popular with the release of singles such as ‘Soapy’ and ‘Puta’ both of which have enjoyed major airplay and have also caused controversy.
Naira Marley has also managed to create a heavy fanbase that are as passionate and defensive of the artiste as any you would find around the world. The ‘Marlians’ as they call themselves, love the singer’s music and are ready to criticize anyone who comes for the singer or his songs.
Naira Marley has on many occasions said that he is not a Yahoo boy and that he has not committed any crime but has if anything touched people’s lives. In a tweet he put up recently, he said: “My music can cure depression.”
As for the effect Naira Marley is having on young people, there was the story of a young man who was apprehended for fraud who claimed that he was influenced by Marley’s music and he said he learnt hacking on YouTube and that he was entranced by the lifestyle of Marley.
One thing is sure, Naira Marley will be going into court a much, much more popular man than the last time he went in.
