Far too cool to be a basic girl, Jennifer Ejoke – popularly known as Wavy The Creator – is one of the few whose distinctive and pervasive androgyny character stands out amongst the crowd. Born in Lagos, Nigeria on the 1st of June, 1990 – Wavy The Creator is a musical artist, photographer, fashion designer, creative director and film-maker raised in the United States of America.
Tagged by many as Wizkid’s lookalike, Wavy The Creator began her musical career in 2017 with her breakthrough hit, “H.I.G.H (Her in Greater Heights)”. This track earned her the opportunity to open for Skepta at his Homecoming concert in Lagos and also perform alongside music stars like J Hus, Davido, Wizkid amongst others.
In 2018, she signed with Tinie Tempah’s Disturbing London – releasing her debut single ‘Shaku’ with the label. The single was premiered online by Vogue magazine and it rode on the waves of the popular Nigerian dance style by the same name [Shaku Shaku].
Although she landed her first major opportunity in the creative world back in 2016 as Olamide’s official photographer at the One Africa Fest Show in Houston – she eventually made the role hers under the name Wavy Film after being invited back to Lagos by the Nigerian rapper to collaborate on his future visual projects.
Beyond music and photography, Wavy who prides herself on being a multi-faceted creative and refuses to be restricted to just one talent also has a fashion brand – Azif – to her name where her unique personality bleeds through in the form of retro and vibrant colours.
Often regarded as an alternative artiste, Wavy describes herself as the “Nigerian Alien” and believes that the vibes and atmosphere are always important to the final result of whatever she is creating.
In her words;
There isn’t really a process in the creative process.
Creativity is an art and art is a form of expression, so I allow the vibes and atmosphere lead me.
The self-taught creative has photographed many Nigerian celebrities such as Olamide, M.I., Runtown, Lil Kesh, Adekunle Gold, Phyno, Yung6ix, to name a few and with all the spotlight she has amassed to herself in 2 years, it is safe to call Wavy The Creator a visionary at its best.
