In news that should surprise absolutely no one, The Lion King remake is now the highest grossing animated movie of all time.
That title used to belong to another Disney title, Frozen which raked in $1.276 billion at the time.
The Lion King has now brought in a staggering and record breaking $1.3 billion at the box office.
This also makes it number 12 on the list of highest grossing movies of all time.
The Lion King has been difficult to place in a box with not even director Jon Favreau sure about what to make of it, “It depends what standard you’re using. Because there’s no real animals and there’s no real cameras and there’s not even any performance that’s being captured that’s underlying data that’s real. Everything is coming through the hands of artists.”
Disney has been killing it over the last number of years with their acquisition of Marvel making them front and center in the superhero movie revolution.
The company currently has 12 movies in the top 20 list of highest grossing movies of all time.
The movie has had its critics but even with those, the audiences are moving towards the cinema in droves meaning that from a business standpoint, making the Disney live-action movies was a stroke of genius.
Disney was also able to get James Earl Jones to come and reprise his role as Mufasa which was also brilliant as his was a voice that was impossible to replace.
James Earl Jones has also signed up make another sequel which many never thought will see the light of day. The versatile actor will also be back on board for Coming to America 2.
Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, and Kiki Layne will also be a part of the sequel’s cast while Black-ish creator Kenya Barris will write the script and in the director’s chair will be Craig Brewer.
