What’s going on in the world of Jussie Smollett you ask? Well, from the looks of things, he’s trying to convince the people in his life that he is indeed innocent.
The Empire actor caused quite the stir in Hollywood and America in general after he claimed he was hit with homophobic slurs and was assaulted by unknown men on the 29th of January.
What followed was a soap opera that gripped America for two months. During this time, the story experienced major dips and curves including allegations of false testimony, MAGA hat wearing homophobes and so on.
Eventually, the charges levelled against Jussie Smollett were dropped but not without heavy suspicion and the city of Chicago has since sued the actor to pay for the overtime which the police officers had to put in during the investigation.
During a vacation in Hawaii on which Smollett, his two sisters, brother-in-law and niece and nephew all went to cool off following the sensational situation.
Eyewitnesses claimed that they saw the actor pacing up and down trying to convince the person on the other end of the line about his innocence.
‘it’s over, I got off’ he was heard saying.
His family were dining nearby as he made this call and he was also reported to have said: ‘I did not do any of this. The charges were dropped.
“Ryan, Ryan. You have to believe me”
This is hardly surprising as Jussie Smollett lost a lot of public support after the allegations of lying to the police came to light with many withdrawing the support they had initially given to the actor.
Many, including the city of Chicago, believe he got off because of his influence within Hollywood with Lori Lightfoot, the incoming mayor of Chicago saying: “We cannot create the perception that if you’re rich or famous or both that you get one set of justice, and for everybody else it’s something much harsher,”
