The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame officially launched a smartphone manufacturing company in Rwanda.
This is very significant as Rwanda is the first African nation to venture into smartphone manufacturing. History was made on Monday the 8th day of October 2019 where it was revealed that the factory can manufacture up to 2million smartphones in a year.
The news first broke in April as production was ongoing and on the 8th of October, the factory was launched with the release of Mara X and Z smartphones.
The president also expressed his feelings and didn’t forget to say how excited he is because his country is the first in Africa to do this.
“I am very pleased to join you all here today to launch the mara phones factory which is the first of its kind in our continent.”
The Mara Phones Factory is located in Kigali Special Economic Zone in Gasabo District. The launch of the smartphones factory in Rwanda will serve as inspiration for other African countries to more technologically inclined.
This should help to reduce the cost of smartphones in the country and the continent.
