Nigerian rapper, Naira Marley is still in Ikoyi prison over suspicions of Credit Card fraud from the Economic and Financial Crimes commission (EFCC)
His legal team took to his Instagram to explain that the reason for this is that the rapper is still awaiting the perfection of his bail conditions.
Naira Marley was granted bail and it was set at N2 million along with two sureties in like sum.
There have been reports following this that Marley was unable to meet his bail conditions hence, his continued incarceration in Ikoyi Prison, but his legal team has come out to debunk this releasing a statement in which they said: “Hello Nigerians let us be smart, not everything you hear or read you should believe, the surety has been ready from the day they granted him bail, but we gotta wait for EFCC to go confirm the sureties address.
“We are waiting for them to confirm and the court still needs to sign the release paper.
“To everyone talking rubbish your time will come.”
Reports indicate that the EFCC is trying to build a strong case against Naira Marley and have charged him on 11 counts bordering on credit card fraud.
To support this, the anti-graft agency claim that Naira Marley conspired with Yad Isril and Raze to make use of credit cards numbered 5264711020433662 and 42658840359191132 “issued to persons other than you in a bid to obtain gain.”
He was also accused to have on the 10th of May 2019 had in his “possession of two counterfeit access cards Nos. 4539782440624281 and 492189410257431 issued in the names of Nicole Louise Malyon and Timea Fedorne Tatar, respectively.”
The story has been a very interesting one that has drawn large reactions from normal people and celebrities alike and brought to the fore the conversation about the morally or otherwise of Internet fraud.
