When you hear “black” what comes to mind? Some individuals think of it as a colour, others may think of it as depressing, dismal, wicked, evil or just a sign of hatred. Well, my definition is totally the opposite.
The essense of the word black displays a strong feeling of power, elegance, prosperity and all the other characteristics of what us – the black people have come to conquer over the years. In fact, words can’t even describe how grateful I am to be part of this dynamic heritage; these were the thoughts of fitness expert, Maje Ayida who recently passed a message of how beautiful the black skin is in an Instagram post.
In a picture post of himself, Maje captioned it;
In a world where dark skin is seemingly a crime, where Iâm told âyouâre black shaâ, like I need to do something about it; Iâm just over here, flexing my complexion.

However, his message fell on deaf ears as his dedicated trolls reminded him of how his ex – Toke Makinwa, claimed she had to bleach her skin colour because of him in her book, “On Becoming”.
Maje Ayida and Toke Makinwa was married for 18 months before they eventually ended up divorcing. They met each other at a boat club in Lagos. The fitness trainer was accused of cheating on his wife for a long time with his ex-girlfriend Anita Solomon. In fact, this became the most high-profile scandal that rocked the Nigerian entertainment industry at a point.
Well, for those of us who understood Maje’s message, black is truly beautiful and everything in black has its own appeal.
