Felabration: Over 400 Artistes Indicate Interest to Perform

Felabration is one of the most anticipated musical events of the year in Nigeria and this year is no different  as the event looms ever closer.

At the time of writing, over 400 Nigerian and foreign artistes have indicated their interest to perform at the festival by registering.

The 2019 iteration of the event is set to hold at the New Afrikan Shrine, Ikeja and other venues from Oct. 14 to Oct. 20.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who spoke to a member of the Organising Committee, the interest in this year’s edition has been overwhelming.

Felabration was founded by Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s daughter, Yeni, who saw it as an avenue to honor her late father and also in some way revive his legacy and preach his ideals to the coming generations.

NAN reports that the committee member who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that a portal was opened between May 1 and Aug. 31. for artistes, who wanted to be part of the event to register.

This year’s theme is called “From Lagos with Love’’.

Of course 400 Artistes can’t perform at the event, however, prominent candidates would be chosen from the 400 to perform.

“Well over 400 entries had been received. We can’t disclose the artistes to perform now, as we have not selected” he said.

“The list of those to perform and on which particular day will be circulated as soon as the selection is done.

“The portal will not be reopened, as it had been opened for adequate time to artistes who would like to perform at the event,’’ he concluded.

The event won’t be limited to just music as it has been reported that it would also feature a symposium, Afrobics dance competition, secondary school debates and other activities in addition to the music.
