The fallout of the murder of Kolade Johnson by Police officers rages on with Nigerian singer Simi, sharing on Twitter that she has been blocked by the Police.

The person in question is Abayomi Shogunle, the Assistant Commissioner of Police and also the head of Police Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit.

Shogunle, who is charged with hearing out cases involving police brutality, also blocked Nigerian rapper, Ruggedman, who had also taken to Twitter to urge Nigerians to physically protest the killing of Johnson.

He had tagged Shogunle in his tweet, but got blocked instead.

Ruggedman tweeted: “Look who just blocked me because I said I am waiting on his tweet about an innocent man killed by a SARS officer. What a shame. If it’s a dumb tweet or act he will be fast to comment. We bring you a serious case and you keep mute and block people. What a disgrace to @PoliceNG”

In response to his tweet, Simi also tweeted that she took had tasted the dreaded block button from Shogunle.

She tweeted: “Apparently I’ve been blocked too. Blocked a while ago too. God help us.”

The Police did release a statement stating that the officers responsible for the murder have been caught and would face an internal process of punishment, to which Simi criticized the move, questioning why their discipline should be hidden from the public.

“POLICE TEAM SUSPECTED TO HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN THE SHOOTING OF KOLADE JOHNSON IS NOW IN OUR CUSTUDY….. CP LAGOS COMMAND ASSURES JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL #AskThePolice” the official twitter handle of the Nigerian police said

“They will be subjected to internal disciplinary procedures, and may be prosecuted in conventional Court if implicated by ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu mni calls for calm, assuring that justice will prevail in this case.”

To which Simi responded, “Why internal? Why not make public scapegoats out of them so the others learn accountability. If they don’t value our lives because they should, let them value it for fear of the consequences. #JusticeForKolade”

What do you think about this blocking spree? Shouldn’t citizens have freedom of speech and expression? Are the people misusing their human rights? do they deserve to be blocked? What is your take on this?
