While many in the outside world don’t believe him, Jussie Smollett can at least count on the Empire family to have his back.
Much like in the series itself, Jussie Smollett is being backed by his fictional family as he continues to recover from the fallout of the alleged attack meted out against him in January.
There have been suits, allegations, counter allegations and so much more.

Co-stars, Terrence Howard and Taraji. P. Henson along with other stars penned an open letter where they vouched for Smollett and asked that he returns for the 6th season of the show.
“We understand the past months have been difficult to process – sometimes the headlines brought more confusion than clarity, yet we now have a conclusion to the ordeal,” the letter reads. “Throughout Empire‘s five seasons working with Jussie and watching how he has conducted himself throughout this traumatic event, we have come to know not just the character Jussie portrays, but also truly come to know Jussie’s personal character.
“He is kind. He is compassionate. He is honest and above all he is filled with integrity,” the letter continues. “He is also innocent and no longer subject to legal uncertainty with the criminal charges against him having been dropped. We are confident in his lawyer’s assurance that the case was dismissed because it would not have prevailed.”
Jussie Smollett was cleared of all charges on the 26th of March with his lawyers assuring all parties involved that the case was over.
The Empire cast also gave examples of those who vouched for Smollett including Black AIDS institute and other bodies. The letter ends on this note: “so that we can all put this behind us and move forward. Thank you for taking time to hear us. It’s our hope that together we will move on into our sixth season as the Empire family should.”
