With the Season 8 Premiere of Game of Thrones looming, Emilia Clarke, otherwise known as Daenerys Targaryen, otherwise known as Khaleesi, has shared pictures from what was probably the darkest period of her life– when she had a brain aneurysm.
A brain aneurysm is a weakness in the blood vessels located in the brain and while they can be completely harmless, things can go south if they swell and explode which could lead to hemorrhagic stroke and other nasty defects.
The English actress suffered from one a little after the first season of Game of Thrones while she was only 24 and it caused language impairment aphasia, which basically made it difficult for her to speak or understand language.
Speaking to CBS Sunday Morning, she disclosed that the episode left her feeling depressed as she worried that she would be unable to act again.
“With the first one, it was difficult, but with the second one, I found it much harder to stay optimistic,” Clarke said.
There was a second aneurysm and surgery for that wasn’t great and she had to have parts of her skull replaced with Titanium and she was in severe pain.
“For a very long time I thought it was my ability to act, it was a very, very deep paranoia.” she said, revealing her deep fear at the time.
“What if something has short circuited my brain and I can’t act anymore. It’s been my reason for living for a very long time.”
Emilia Clarke was even told by doctors that a part of her brain died, “So, they [the doctors] literally were looking at the brain and being like, ‘Well, we think it could be – could be her concentration, it could be her peripheral vision,'” she said.
Thankfully Emilia Clarke is okay now and come Sunday, millions around the world will be there to watch her reprise her role as Daenerys Targaryen in the final season of Game of Thrones.
