Desperate Housewives star, Felicity Huffman has begun her two-week stint in jail after being convicted for her part in a college scam.
The Hollywood actress was found guilty of using a bribe to get her daughter into a good college.
The scandal has hit a lot of parents especially from the upper class but Felicity Huffman was perhaps the most prominent of the parents who landed in trouble.
She will be a guest of the low-security Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin which is close to San Francisco.
In a statement to AFP, a representative of the actress said: “Ms. Huffman is prepared to serve the term of imprisonment Judge (Indira) Talwani ordered as one part of the punishment she imposed for Ms. Huffman’s actions. She will begin serving the remainder of the sentence Judge Talwani imposed one year of supervised release, with conditions including 250 hours of community service when she is released”
Along with this, Huffman was also ordered to pay $30,000 in fines.
Many people aren’t satisfied with the level of punishment as there is the perception that Huffman is getting off easy and should be facing stricter sentences.
Following the announcement, many found ways to mock the actress and the judicial system which they claim has failed them and has once again given privilege to a white person.
Even her former co-star Ricardo Chavira was critical of the light sentence posting on his Twitter when the sentence first became public; “White Privilege. And I saw Eight years worth of it, so I know what I’m talking about. Accountability and Responsibility don’t mean shit to these people.”
