The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have finally made a statement regarding the COZA scandal involving Busola Dakolo and Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo.
Recall that the photographer accused the pastor of raping her twice when she was 16 in a video that went viral and has more or less set the internet on fire.
Pastor Fatoyinbo did make a statement on the matter saying that he has at no time in his life and career raped anyone, not even as an unbeliever.
Speaking with the Telegraph, Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Pastor Oladeji Adebayo distanced CAN from the scandal, stating that the body doesn’t govern the affairs of Pastors.
Adebayo said: “I am sorry CAN does not intervene in how churches are running. Churches belong to denominations and these are the two bodies that regulate how pastors run their ministries, not CAN. CAN deals with intrareligious matters and stands between the church and the government.”
There have been a lot of reactions following the news with many standing with Busola Dakolo and the hashtage #istandwithbusoladakolo trending on Twitter and normal people and celebrities alike posting supportive messages on Social Media.
On the other side though, there were those who do not believe Busola Dakolo including Reno Omokri who said: “I have NEVER liked Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of COZA for reasons that I will not say publicly. However, I am mature enough to divorce my emotions and be led by logic. And I counsel those now condemning him to do the same.
“After he allegedly raped her, she kept quiet for enough time for him to go to his car and get a soda drink for her? It does not ADD UP. My dislike for Biofun Fatoyinbo won’t make me become a SLANDERER by default. This story rings very FALSE.”
Pastor Fatoyinbo has expressed a desire to sue and it would be interesting to see how this all plays out.
