Bugatti, the French sports car brand has revealed the most expensive new car ever built. The brand now owned by the German auto-maker Volkswagen, revealed that the car is called The Bugatti La Voiture Noire which literarily means “The Buggatti Black Car”
With a sale price of 16.7 million euros ($19 million), the Bugatti La Voiture Noire was publicly debuted at the Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland to mark the Company’s 110th anniversary.
“La Voiture Noire is a far more than a modern interpretation of Jean Bugatti’s Type 57 SC Atlantic of which only four were ever made. It is a feast of aesthetics,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Bugatti President. “The true form of luxury is individuality. ‘La Voiture Noire’ is now at the cutting edge of automobile production.”
The company said the six-tailpipe “hyper car” represents the pinnacle of Bugatti’s production line. The 8-liter engine has 16 cylinders and 1500 brake horse power. In addition to its unique bodywork and elegant black finish, the La Voiture Noire has a slightly longer wheelbase than the Chiron. Suspension and other changes were also likely made, though not specified, with the focus on comfortable cruising rather than foot-down power delivery.
The full specifications of the car have not been made public by Bugatti but it is still on display at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
While the Bugatti is grabbing plenty of attention in Geneva this year, it’s still a bit shy of the priciest vehicle ever. That record was set by a Ferrari 250 GTO, which is believed to have been sold for somewhere in the order of $70-$80 million in May, 2018. Previously, the most expensive new car ever sold was a $13 million Rolls Royce Sweptail. It was also a one-off coupe.
Only one of The Bugatti La Voiture Noire was made and the new owner hasn’t been revealed. Several industry reports suggest that former Volkswagen Group chairman, Ferdinand Piech has added it to his collection of high-end cars.
