Idris Okuneye otherwise known as Bobrisky had her birthday shut down by members of the police force yesterday in a move that has outraged Nigerians.
The internet personality had been planning this birthday for a while to celebrate 28 years and the venue was ‘The Pearl Gardens’, Wole Olateju Crescent, Off Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
While there have been reports that Bobrisky was arrested, it doesn’t seem like that was the case as she posted from Snapchat thanking supporters and claiming that she will not be broken.
“I’m a hard rock, nothing can break me. Love you all.
“I know it’s painful especially to those of you who travelled to Nigeria to celebrate me. Don’t worry, I got you all.”
The general reaction to this news has been outrage by many Nigerians on social media who claim that the police should face their jobs and arrest the actual criminals in the country rather than someone who is just a a little different from everybody else.
“If you know Bobrisky, ask her to seek asylum in a western country. Ask her to do it now. She has grounds to. Let Nigeria’s idiocy be her silver lining.” said someone on Twitter
“Whatever issues she has, I absolutely love Bobrisky. She is a mirror in your hypocritical Nigerian faces, ably appropriating your filthy hustle, successfully. Unapologetically. Boldly. She is your fear embodied. Your contradiction personified. Wild and free. You hate to see it.” said another user.
Recall that Bobrisky was mentioned by the Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe who called her a ‘national disgrace’.
“Bobrisky is a national disgrace. He started by selling and using bleaching creams, now, he has grown boobs, bums and hips.
“There are others like him, but they live outside the country. If we don’t address Bobrisky as early as possible, he will form a team that will spread like wildfire.” Runsewe said.
As to why Bobrisky was targeted, according to the Punchng.com, the spokesman for the force, Bala Elkana, said that it was because they received sensitive information. We have no idea what this is, but it will be interesting to see how this develops.
