The last couple of years have seen a bit of a political awakening in Nigerian youth and the latest exponent is Angel Awotarigha formerly of Big Brother Nigeria.
Ever since the advent of #NotTooYoungToRun, more and more youths are running for office in their various states.
We’ve also seen a trend where celebrities try their hands at politics including Yul Edochie, Desmond Elliot and a number of other celebrities.
Angel Awotarigha was a contestant in the 2018 edition of Big Brother Nigeria where he didn’t get too far, but with the exposure that came with the show, he has now shot himself into national limelight and is now running for the highest office in his native Bayelsa.
In a post about it on his Instagram, the ex-Reality star announced his candidacy explaining that power unfortunately, is never given but is taken.
He captioned his post: “The reality of life is that power is never given, but always taken. The time of talking about a better Nigeria is gone, now is the time for action. Let us be the change we want to see.
“It is with this realization that I announce my candidacy for the 2019 Gubernatorial race in Bayelsa state. Let there be light!!!”
Angel Awotarigha is married to Felicia, a Canadian beauty with whom he tied the knot in April 2019 in Port-Hacourt.
He shared a picture of the two of them while thanking fans and well wishers for all their support in that time.
He said: “See Ijaw people, thank you all for your love and support, I give you Mr and Mrs Angel Awotarigha”
Do you think Angel has what it takes to win? And if he does win, does it mean that we can expect to see more and more youth take over positions of power?
It’ll be interesting to see how this goes.
