Foreign investment into Nollywood just keeps growing with the news that comedian AY Makun has signed a deal with China’s HuaHua media.
The Chinese company is looking to invest in Nollywood movies and will join forces with AY Makun for the production of ’30 Days in China’ which is slated for release next year.
AY will reprise his role as ‘Akpos’ and will be joined by a slew of Nigerian and Chinese actors.
It will be another addition to the highly successful ’30 days’ franchise which started with ’30 Days in Atlanta’ and then there was Jamaica and South Africa. The movie will be shot at HuaHua’s studios.
Commenting on the deal, AY expressed his excitement at the opportunity saying: “We are enthusiastic about this opportunity because it extends the influence of our art to global markets. I look forward to working with the good people of Huahua and FilmOne to create a masterpiece in 30 Days in China.”
The deal which was was between HuaHua media and AY’s Corporate World Entertainment also features FilmOne Entertainment.
The Co-founders of FilmOne Entertainment, Moses Babatope and Kene Okwuosa also said, “The 30 Days in China project is not just one to add a feather to our wings as a company, it positions the Nigerian film industry on the global stage as an advancing player, especially in terms of quality. We hope that this will open doors to more international collaborations.”
President of Huahua Media, Kefei Wang talked up the importance of investing Nigeria and Nigerian content.
“Investing in Nollywood has been of major importance to us, seeing the abundance of talent and the possibility of creating masterpieces with collaborations. We have identified prominent players in CWE and FilmOne and confident that the 30 Days in China film would yield outstanding results.”
