#ArewaMeToo – Sadiya Taheer The Female Sexal Assult Activist In Northern Nigeria Was Allegedly Accused Of Lesbianism And Beaten Up For Organizing A Rally Promoting LGBTQ In Sokoto

Sadiya Taheer is a Nigerian Sexual Activist in the North urging women the women in the North who have been sexually abused to speak up against it but many Northerners are not too comfortable with the idea of women talking about their sexual abuse.

In 2015, the Senate handed the VAPP Act {Violence Towards Individuals Acts} invoice but hasn’t been demonstrated.

In a way to effect the Act, Sadiya who is the Chief campaign for  #ArewaMeToo motion in Sokoto was in charge of organizing the rally in the state alongside 8 other Northern States on Monday 25 November 2019.

Prior to the day of the rally, the campaign was attacked severally on twitter and tagged to be an LGBTQ rights rally.

Narrating the ordeal on the day of the rally, Sadiya revealed that letters were sent to appropriate authorities and the office of the Police Commissioner was contacted also. She was assured that they were all on her side for the rally to be a successful one.

She further alleged that, on that day, at the entrance of the State Home of Meeting, she was denied entry and the others who got there before her, we’re asked to leave the venue by the DPO who said he was acting on the commissioner’s’ order that the rally wasn’t for her stated purpose but for the purpose of advertising the LGBTQ group in the state.

Sadiya alleged that, as they all opted to leave the venue, the policemen got a phone call and began coming in their direction and attacked her and others after they had collected and destroyed their placards.

She said that her photograph was collected from the internet by some persons accusing her of selling LGBTQ in Sokoto state.

However, Sadiya said that her household has received a series of threats to assault her brother, sister and parents as well as to damage her. She concluded by saying “Nigeria is as corrupt as it gets even the police.
