Ali Tate Cutler will model for Victoria Secret. Now on its own, that might not raise an eyebrow, however, what makes it so remarkable is that she is the first Size 14 model to work with the brand.
Victoria Secret was notorious for their version of beauty, one that doesn’t really correlate with the current climate. So they did a collaboration with London-based lingerie company Bluebella and the campaign will have Ali Tate Cutler as the face of it.
So, what do you need to know about the model who hopes to represent the ‘Everyday woman’ in the fashion industry?
She is represented by Milk and Muse Model Management– The London based modelling agency represents a variety of models including curvy or plus-sized. Launched in 2011, they have represented the likes of Jessie J, Ricky Wilson, Presenter Vogue Williams, and Strictly Dancers Janette Manrara and Aljaz Skorjanec.
She looks up to other plus sized models like Crystal Renn and Ashley Graham– In an exclusive interview with E! she said that before she only had the likes of Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss ” When I started to discover plus size models my whole image of my own body transformed. I started thinking, ‘Oh, those women are really beautiful, I guess I can be too.’ It started to make me feel more confident and empowered. I started to follow the world of Crystal Renn and Ashley Graham.” she said in the interview
She is active on Instagram and replies comments– Ali Tate Cutler has a modest following on Instagram as she currently has less than 200,000 followers, but she tries to connect with them, something she touched on in the interview with E! explaining how she deals with negative comments on her page: “At the end of the day, what sticks in my mind is the positive comments, they stay with me and make sure that I am on the right track. If I can even help one person, that is a win for me. Forget all the haters.” she said.
She is an advocate of Body-Positivity- Seeing as she is a plus-sized model herself, Ali Tate Cutler is also a proponent for body-positivity and she feels that ‘self-love’ is the best way for one to become comfortable in their own body. “Self-love is a journey that is not linear. You don’t start at A and end at B it’s an ongoing persistent practice. Some days you find that you love yourself and you think that all of your body woes and insecurities are a thing of the past and other days you realize that you’re still struggling with this” she said.
She continued; “We need to take our own happiness and our own respect for ourselves in our own hands.”
It should be noted that Cutler isn’t a Victoria Secret model, she is just on this campaign.
