Nollywood has been killing it at the movies in the genre of comedy and romance and we just want to take a second to talk about Jump and Pass
Jump and Pass came out in 2014 and was written and produced by Uduak Isong Oguamanam and had veteran Desmond Elliot in the Director’s Chair.
The movie Ime ‘Bishop’ Umoh, Alexx Ekubo, Belinda Effah, May Owen, and Emem Ufot, David Azeez, Whoba Ogo, and Odot Ekanem and follows the hilarious story of Edem (Bishop Umoh) who is plagued with diarrhoea and therefore leaves his gate unmanned in search of tissue paper.
Unfortunately for poor Edem, there’s a robbery in progress in the area and two strangers run in through the open gate for safety.
Ikenna (Whoba Ogo) is forced to open his door to his neighbours, the strangers and Edem.
The rest of the movie was about them dealing with one another and hoping they don’t get caught and assaulted by the robbers all of which leads to pure hilarity.
Uduak Isong has also been at the helm of other movies including Falling and House Husband.
She did an interview with Thisday and there she was asked how she made it this far in a male dominated space, to which she stated that she doesn’t believe Nollywood is as male dominated as it’s made out to be.
“People often ask me how I’ve managed to make a mark in a male-dominated industry; I don’t know if Nollywood is still male-dominated. There are several women now in positions of authority and some of the biggest films in the past few years have been by women or in partnership with women, so some of the challenges women faced earlier are now quite limited. I don’t think about my gender as a filmmaker. I just see myself as a filmmaker.” she said
