The death of Oghenemaro Emeofa otherwise known as Mad Melon has hit the community of Ajegunle pretty hard ever since it was announced yesterday.
The ‘Suo’ instigator was announced dead after a brief illness by his management team released a short statement where they said:”The management of Mad Melon and Mountain Black aka Danfo Drivers, wishes to announce to the general public the passing of Oghenemaro Emeofa aka Mad Melon.
“A true legend has fallen. May God grant his family, group mate (Mountain Black), well-wishers and friends the fortitude to bear the loss.”
The news initially broke when Daddy Showkey announced via his Instagram page about the death of Mad Melon and it was later confirmed by a number of dailies.
There was an outpouring of grief on the streets of Ajegunle where he was very popular and well respected for his contributions to Nigerian music.
Danfo buses conveying mourners who hung from doors roofs were seen on the video as they made a procession down the road with hundreds of people walking alongside the buses.
Artisans could be seen crying and wailing as a community said goodbye to one of its heroes.
His Instagram page was also filled with people who came to mourn his death and remember him for the great music that he was able to deliver to the people.
Mad Melon left an indelible mark on the music industry as the Suo dance reigned for quite a while. He was a contemporary of the likes of Daddy Showkey and Daddy Fresh, when music that many might have considered ‘razz’ but which passed a message and was accessible to the people was really popular.
