Actor Of The Week – Mercy Johnson-Okojie

Born on August 28, 1984, is the beautiful and talented Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson. She hails from Kogi state born into the family of seven and she comes fourth.

She started her primary school education from Calabar but continued in Lagos when her father a naval officer was transferred to Lagos. She proceeded to River State for her secondary education.

With the status of her father, the rough times the family had to go through all resulted in her taking up menial jobs for money such as, Hawking various Items to meet up with school demands because she was determined to get an education.

Her passion to become an actress begun when she was unable to get admission into the higher institution due to the low cut off Mark she had. Fresh from secondary school, she auditioned for a role in a movie, titled “the maid”. Luckily for her, she got the role and proved why she deserves a shot in Nollywood.

Her brilliant performance in the movie shot her to stardom which brought about other successes.

Mercy Johnson has so far starred in over a hundred movies some of which are; Baby Oku In America, Dumebi The Dirty Girl, War In The Palace, Thirty Days In Atlanta, Hustlers and many more.

Mercy Johnson has been referred to as a natural-born talent by many which in turn earned her various awards and nominations such as;

  • Best Actress In The Movie, Dumebi The Dirty Girl at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in 2013.
  • Best Supporting Actress at the 2019 Best Of Nollywood Awards.
  • 2012 Nollywood Movies Award – Best Actress in a Leading Role.
  • 2014 Popular Choice Female at the Nollywood Movies Awards.
  • 2018 Eloy Awards – Actress Of The Year In Seven and A Half Date.

The award-winning actor is also the founder of the Mercy Johnson Foundation with its main purpose as support to widows and less fortunate children.

In 2017, Mercy Johnson was appointed  the Senior Special Assistant to the Kogi State Governor and also an ambassador to Mr Chef Iodized Salt and currently, she runs a cooking show called “Mercy Cook Out” with various celebrity guests. She recently launched a new business called Mercy Magic used for weight loss.

Aside from acting, Charity work, political appointment, Ambassadorship and Business, she is also a wife and a mother. She got married to her husband, Prince Odianosen-Okojie in 2011 and they are both blessed with three(3) children.

Her brilliant roles interpretation has made her one of the most sort after actor in Nollywood. That is why she is our actor of the week!!!
