American rapper, A$AP Rocky has begun his trial in Sweden over an assault case involving a teenage boy and he’s pleaded not guilty.

The rapper has been incarcerated since the 3rd of July and this has caused so much rancor that even President Donald Trump has had to get involved.

According to Swedish public prosecutor Daniel Suneson, A$AP Rocky was charged with beating the victim with a whole or part of a glass bottle while he laid on the ground. In addition, the Afgan refugee Mustafa Jafari said he suffered injuries to his arm and head in the fight as well as broken ribs. “I felt that they would beat me to death,” he said.

In addition to this, Jafari also claimed that he has since been plagued with Nightmares of the incident and that the viral nature of the video has also caused a loss of reputation. He also blamed the injuries from the incident for his inability to work and he rejected claims that he was high at the time.

In his defense, A$AP’s lawyer, Slobodan Jovicic, claimed that his client did not commit any crime and that he merely acted out of a need to protect some of the people of his entourage as they felt sufficiently threatened by Jafari.

Bladimir Corniel and David Rispers, both in the rapper’s crew denied any wrongdoing at the time.

During the trial, the video of the incident which A$AP’s lawyer claimed was edited and text messages between the rapper’s people talking about cleaning up the mess were read in court.

Jafari is seeking 139,700 Swedish krona in damages (about $14,600)  with the trial set to conclude on Friday.

Fans of the rapper are still hopeful for his vindication after he was denied bail as Sweden doesn’t have a bail system and that is part of the reasons for the trial.
